Giving Daily Peace a Chance

Posted on May 27, 2007 - Filed Under Just Breathe, Deep Thoughts |

In the words of John Lennon, I am calling on everyone to “give peace a chance.” The peace I wish for everyone is that peace of mind, that balance, that we often feel is missing and never really know how to find it. Every person must feel a place of peace within their own body and mind to live a balanced life full of happiness. Every day we are given another opportunity to find that missing peace within ourselves but we push our own needs aside, choosing instead to fill our time meeting other people’s needs. By the end of the day we are often left feeling unbalanced and empty. Sometimes we think this is just the way of the world and we lose our prana, our vital energy that makes us who and what we are. Deciding to give daily peace a chance by setting aside 10, 20, or however many minutes you can find will help bring back that often missing balance to your daily life.

Today my daily peace was breathing. I sat on my bed and did a breathing exercise that I learned in a yoga class. You first take a deep breath in through your nostils allowing the breath to go deep down into your belly while thinking or saying out loud: I am calm. Then exhale out your mouth while thinking or saying out loud: I am present. I did this breathing exercise for about 5 minutes until I felt centered and relaxed. I hope this can be your daily peace too.

Hey! Great blog : ) I have a request: could you write a post about “yoga at your desk”? My friend had a demonstration at work the other day and said it was great–but I just can’t imagine what yoga poses you can do in your seat! thanks!

Absolutely! That’s a really great idea and I definitely have some moves I do at work that work in your seat and standing in a small space. I’ll type some up and post them for you.
