Turtle Love

You know those mornings that you wake up and everything seems familiar? Like you’ve done this before in this exact manner? Well, this morning was that kind of beginning for me. I experience déjà vu all the time, but I still have not figured out why it happens to me so often. I guess I could be on my second or third life, but I’d like to think if I was that I would be living a different life every time, just for variety sake. Or if you ask Freud, I’m pretty sure he would suggest I am experiencing an illusion of reality and have mental issues, which I guess I would be willing to entertain.
Regardless, I was driving to work during fun rush hour and all of a sudden everyone starts slamming on their brakes. Granted this is not an uncommon occurrence in northern Virginia, but I do stick to the “back roads” as much as I can and avoid the Capital Beltway at all costs. A few get angry and start honking, but that stops when we all see this guy carrying a huge army green turtle across the street and place it on the grass next to a little manmade pond behind a townhouse complex. Instantly everyone chilled out.
So what does this have to do with my déjà vu? Well, I think I made a personal connection between what this experience meant for me. It occurred to me that maybe we have these feelings as a way to make us slow down and take notice of our day, or of something that is going to happen. My ubersensitive weirdness that started when I woke up was gone after the turtle incident. It’s like some divine phone operator sensed my current loss of connection I was feeling with my newly acquired long commute and literally threw a turtle in the road to slow me down and take notice of something good in the world (turtle) that was helped by someone (guy carrying turtle) good in the world.
Just a thought that is definitely my daily peace today and the turtle guy is my new hero.

Yay for turtle guy! (And the turtle, too!)
Hey there,
I’ve been reading your blog for a few days, having been referenced by Kristen K. Always love yoga-related material!
Anyway, I recently posted about a “scientific” view of deja-vu over at www.mentalhealthnotes.com. If you’re interested -
