Radiohead Using “In Rainbows” to Go Green

Posted on October 17, 2007 - Filed Under Reviews, Music, Mother Nature |

When I heard from Pitchfork that Radiohead is coming out with a new album I felt that all was right with the world. And I am so stoked to learn that their new album is going to be sold exclusively in digital form from their website, thus reducing all that annoying plastic packaging waste.
So maybe the whole band isn’t as concerned about environmental issues like Thom Yorke, who believes that rock tours significantly damage the environment because of the carbon emissions, but the plastic CD cases that won’t be needlessly used to get their new album “In Rainbows” is a huge plus in my book. Radiohead never said that they are only doing the digital download because of environmental concerns, but I don’t think that cheapens the idea of receiving a digital version for a lower price (free?) than a copy in a plastic case (about $81 when it goes on sale in December) with a paper insert. I actually went to the site to check out the download price and I was told I can chose whatever price I want….still pondering that one.

So tonight I think I’ll go ahead and download the juju and look forward to many more digital downloads from my favorite bands.
