Worker Bee Injuries

Posted on October 25, 2007 - Filed Under Health, Techie |

Most of us worker bees not only sit at a desk all day, but we also stare at a computer screen. Even as an editor I can do all of my editing on the computer right in the files. It’s only when my eyes start to burn and the bright office lights start to affect my vision that I finally have to print out the file I am working on because reading a hard copy is so much easier on my eyes. So what can we do about these office aches and pains?

A physician writing on tech-recipes discusses the problems that this type of lifestyle can cause such as sleeping problems, headaches, back pain, and poor attention span are the main types of problems the doctor treats on heavy computer users, which face it, is almost everyone in an office nowadays.

Many sleeping problems are caused by following the geek lifestyle and having electronics in the bedroom. The way your computer screen is configured (brightness/font size) and how you sit at your desk are common headache causes. Back pain comes from not using or strengthening back muscles during the week while sitting at your desk and then overworking them on the weekend. Short attention span can be traced to the computer user’s ability to work in multiple computer screen windows, but when left with only one task, they cannot focus on the single item at hand.

Okay, so My Daily Peace has got you covered. Follow these steps to restore your worker bee health:

1. Check the ergonomics of your workstation!

2. Learn some exercises you can do at your desk!

3. Keep the electronics out of the bedroom; sleep and sex in the bedroom, nothing else!

4. When you are having trouble focusing on one task, get up and take a walk around the block or office. Your brain needs proper rest and maybe even some retraining.

5. When you get home from work, lie on the bed or couch and place a damp, cool washcloth over your eyes for ten minutes. This not only soothes your tired, fried eyes, but it also serves as a way to relax and decompress so you can enjoy your evening.
