CakeLove Sweetens Shirlington, Virginia

As the parking situation in Shirlington Village has risen to new annoying heights, there is now an excellent reason to fight the crowds brought on by all the new building development: CakeLove! That little piece of cupcake heaven created by Warren Brown himself is now in Shirlington Village and only two miles from my house; oh happy day!
What started out as a quick trip to Robeks for a Saturday smoothie turned in to cupcakes and meeting (well, if starring at someone with a dopey grin on your face is meeting them) Warren Brown himself! My clever husband spotted the newly opened bakery and without even discussing it, we began crossing the street for cupcakes, because nothing tops off a weekend hike around Roosevelt Island like cake. We went into the store and I immediately spotted Warren. I must admit, I was a bit starstruck. Now as someone who is really into music, I have definitely worked my way through some crowds to say hi to my favorite musicians, but I didn’t realize how enamored I had become with my favorite Food Network cooks and such, and Sugar Rush has definitely made me a fan. I seriously pulled the nonstop smile the entire time, even as Warren moved around the storefront offering free bites of lemon square. Did I mention how nice he is?! Moving on…
I got the vanilla cupcake with orange-flavored frosting and my husband got the Buzzball, which was sort of like two scones with coffee-flavored cream in the middle. My cupcake, which I let get to room temperature before I ate it like a good girl, was positively delicious. The delicate cake had was soooo fresh, with a silky smooth vanilla flavor, while the frosting, which I think is buttercream, was so creamy with a hint of orange and not at all too sweet. And it didn’t have that sugary creamsicle taste that most things orange and vanilla have; it was pure heaven.
So if you want to try the best cupcake you will ever have, made by a super nice guy, then CakeLove is for you.

i LOOOOOVVVEEEE Warren Brown. But is Sugar Rush even on anymore? :(
According to Warren’s website, new episodes are supposed to be on Food Network on Saturdays at 2pm, but I’m wondering how current that info is. According to the Food Network website, they are still playing Sugar Rush during the week, but I can’t tell if they are new episodes.
If there aren’t new episodes, maybe that means he’ll have more time to make cupcakes…
