Hindu Goddess Gets New Lease on Life

Posted on November 8, 2007 - Filed Under Health, Current Events |

Many of you have heard about the successful surgery for that sweet little two-year-old girl in India who had her extra limbs removed from a parasitic twin in an amazing 24-hour operation. Dr. Sharan Patil, who led more than 30 surgeons in the heroic effort, participated in an online chat on The Washington Post today to answer questions about the procedure. It was really informative and amazing. They had to salvage Lakshmi’s organs and reconstruct her pelvis area. They even believe she will be able to walk.

If any would like to, you can help pay for some of Lakshmi’s care through the Sparsh Foundation, a charitable wing of Sparsh Hospital, by visiting their website www.sparshhospital.com or contacting Dr. Mamatha Patil by phone at 919845477435.

I really appreciate the fact that instead of banishing this little girl, her family chose to honor her by naming her Lakshmi after the Hindu goddess. And even though many feel that she is the reincarnation of this goddess, her family decided to still allow her the opportunity to have the surgery a chance at a normal Indian life.
