After Thanksgiving Detox
Posted on November 26, 2007 - Filed Under Health, Food |
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and avoided the weekend shopping frenzy. After eating all of that food, much of it probably made by others, you may feel a little off and in need of a detox. No need to purchase a kit, although some of the natural ones you find at MOM and Whole Foods are good. So to get back in the swing of things on this Monday after Thanksgiving, try the following for 48 to 72 hours to restore your normal digestive patterns.
- Start by drinking lots of water; aim for one glass of water every hour.
- Avoid eating fat; this includes butter, mayo, and sadly even cheese. Instead opt for vegan butter and Vegenaise (I like the grapeseed oil one) to eat with your leftovers.
- Avoid red meat and alcohol, even red wine.
- Limit your sugar intake to include only natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables.
- Before each meal, try a standing forward bend to create space in the abdomen and to release any trapped gases. Cobra is also a good position to improve digestion and regulate your system.
