Happy Birthday, Dr. King

Today is the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of America’s most loved civil rights leaders and an advocate of peace. It’s hard to believe that he was only 39 years old when he was taken from us, and although he passed before I was even born, it hard not to be moved by his life and his message of equality and brotherly love for one another. In light of the current presidential primaries, I thought about the speech Dennis Kucinich gave in 2003 for a celebration honoring Dr. King. Kucinich’s speech titled, “Peace as a Civil Right” makes me cry every time I read it, and I think Dr. King would have appreciated the sentiment. Peace is a civil right!
