Hempsters: Plant the Seed

Posted on August 13, 2008 - Filed Under Mother Nature, Green Goods, Good For You |

Since the 1950s, the American government has outlawed (you need a permit from the DEA) the growing and distribution of hemp. Even after the WWII campaign, “Hemp for Victory,” our government has prevented us from using this wonder crop for many unfounded reasons. This month the movie, Hempsters: Plant the Seed, will be released at special locations with the Baghdad Theatre in Portland, Oregon, being the very first showing.

This movie delves into the differences between marijuana and hemp, and why our country, our farmers, and our environment needs this wonderfully resilient crop. Industrial hemp does not need pesticides or herbicides to grow because hemp grows tightly spaced and it out-competes weeds. In fact, hemp can be pulped with hydrogen peroxide, which is more gentle on the soil.

So check out the website and go see the movie.
